That's a good idea.
Also, the seller can offer to adjust the price "...if there is something the
surveyor found which I don't know about.." which offers plenty of room for
discussion or different interpretations of results...

Unfortunately a surveyor has an incentive to list every last (minor) flaw,
many of which will be "discovered" on any used boat but which the
unknowledgeable buyer may interpret cumulatively as a deal breaker....and of
course hire that surveyor again because he "saved" the buyer...The quality
surveyor will list all the stuff but add an overall assessment such as "This
boat is is very (good, average, poor) condition for it's
(age,make,style,whatever).
