TWL: Rule pump switches

Although rule float switches have gotten a bad rap here on TWL, I've used
them for forty years (no one single switch for all that period) on four boats
and don't remember any failing....besides I haven't seen any
others..everybody seems to carry Rule.

I rigged a bilge alarm circuit by placing separate (Rule) float switches in
each bilge compartment, seven in all, and wiring them all in parallel to a
12 volt alarm...They are four to six inches above the floats for the
pumps....My primary concern is not so much a hull leak, but rather an engine
exhaust hose which might cause volumes of water to be pumped aboard...
Had alarmed each compartment this past summer, the fuel leak I previously
posted about would have been quickly detected....instead of my smelling 55
gallons in my bilge one morning..

regards,
Rob BRueckner
