Subject: TWL: "witch hazel" as a treatment for marine toilets?

When I purchased my trawler last fall, the previous owner had several pint bottles of "witch hazel" stored in the forward head. I doubt that any skin condition would require the quantity he had on board, and surmised that he used it in the marine toilet. Anyone care to enlighten me on this?
