DC always shows a continuous potential to the switch as the current is
added or removed, were as AC current passes thru zero current in its cycle
during a disconnect thus exposes the switch to less current. The DC will
tend to burn out switches at a lower amperage than AC because of this and
are rated for less amps by the manufacturers.

BTW - This is why the bilge pump switches fail so quickly. They build up
weld deposits on each activation of DC current. If not designed with
expensive contacts and advanced engineering they fail. Apparently the
manufacturers cannot match the technology and price boaters are willing to
pay.
