I was going to send this reply to Phil privately but I would guess that he
is not the only one looking to get into trawlers for the first time .
In a word Phil, save yourself a lot of trouble, don't even look at any boat
over 8 years old that has wood decks. (see list above) In all the
descusions (on this list) about wood deck problems in these boats there has
not been one owner telling us that he has no broblems and is happy with his
15 year old wood deck boat.
After looking at a number of boats during our search, the first thing I
would ask the broker when he called with a new listing was "does it have
wood decks?" if the answer was yes, we would not even look at it.
If you want a boat that is all glass (glass decks and stainles rails) and
well built look into the 36ft. Prairie. There are a few around for sale.
Ours will be for sale in about 5 years. (going to a motor home) Good luck
in your search, take you time, ask the list lots of questions as you look
at a particular boat, have fun. It took us a year ...jd
