On the other hand......
In a non-professional situation. I.E. traveling for enjoyment and to
reach new cruising grounds.
We have traveled up and down the OR and WA coasts both with and w/o
"buddy" boats. Our first trip was with a "buddy" to show us the ropes
and to allay our fears. We had no problems on either boat and the trip
was uneventful. So that was OK except for the constant need to
compromise on decisions about stopping, mooring, eating, leaving times,
etc. A couple other trips were people hooking up with us so we could
show them the ropes.
My opinion is. Forget it. Go by yourself.
Assuming you are reasonably competent skipper with a reasonably
competent boat, adding another boat just doubles your worries. Adding 2
boats guarantees that you will spend more time dealing with some problem
on one of the others and holding debates about "should we continue,
should we go in", "my wife thinks it's too rough", "I think I am loosing
an engine", etc, etc.
I learned a long time ago that in long distance cruising on a
motorcycle, unless you have a real experienced and compatible buddy, 2
is tolerable and 3 is way too many. The same seems to hold true for
boats.
