When I replaced mine, we made a template of one end of the tank, made sure it
was the same as the other end, then measured the available length in the
compartment. We then had two aluminum tanks (per side) fabricated. Each new
tank has a separate fill, a joined vent line and a crossover line at the
bottom with a shutoff at either end.
                                                                          
When we did the other side earlier, we only put in one fill for both tanks,
this was a mistake as air builds up in the tanks and "burps" if you try to
fill it too fast.
Plan on pulling the boat and the engine.
