OTOH, the lesson might be: Don't brush your fuel tanks! ;) I've
encountered some strangeness during my peel job on the Krogen 42. The
hot-vac system was pulling a LOT of water out of the keel, too much for
the equipment to handle. We drilled a few holes in the bottom of the
keel to let the water drain out, got maybe a gallon or so out and it
stopped dripping for a couple of days. Guess what? It started dripping
(or maybe weeping would be a better term) DIESEL. Maybe a cup or two has
come out so far, but it still is coming out. Both tanks are shut off
completely with their valves, so it's not coming from any of the
plumbing downstream of the tank. There are no visible leaks anywhere
inside the boat. I'm really HOPING that this is diesel that somehow got
down into the keel over the years, and the weeping will stop. Anyone
else who wants to cross their fingers with me is welcome. These are iron
tanks that are pretty much sealed up behind sound tiles, and glassed in
place best I can tell. If it doesn't, it's going to be a major
demolition job to remove all that tile, and see what's going on behind.
I thought about pressurizing the tank a bit through the vent line and
see if we get leakoff. At least I might be able to isolate one tank if
it's a problem. Any other ideas/experiences would be appreciated.
