TWL: CHB 34 fuel tank curse

Subject: TWL: CHB 34 fuel tank curse

The curse of 20-year-old-iron-tanks struck us today.

Can someone email us the measurements for replacement tanks?

We were worried about our tanks - given the recent posts - so we went
below and started brushing our rust. To no great surprise, our port
tank (black iron) started leaking diesel from the lowest forward
corner. Of course, it has about 100 gallons in it so we are hoping our
local boat fuel merchant has some kind of pump out/reclamation facility.

I had dreams of brushing off the scale, priming it with OSPHO, and
spraying some KRYLON on the rust. Ha, ha.

I guess the lesson for you others who are trying to ignore the rust is:

don't procrastinate!

Our surveyor was very thorough when he went through the boat last
January but the tanks were behind soundproofing and he declined to tear
it off. I was not knowledgeable enough to insist. That's gonna cost
us. Now I know how we got the boat so cheap!

I tried to do a search on irbs.com but...

Did the list ever decide the ideal material for replacement diesel
tanks?
