I sat and watched a friend refilling his still hot alcohol stove
(mistake #1) becuse it wasn't hot enough to boil water As he was doing
so, I got his fire extinguisher off the wall and pulled the pin on it
just in case. I id it as a joke as much as a safety precaution because
if I had any idea that what happened next was going to happen at all I
would have stopped him instead.
What hapened next was scary to say the least. He had transeferred fuel
from the can to a cup to make pouring easier (mistake #2) The invisible
flame traveled unnoticed up the stream of pouring fuel and was burning
in the cup until it had heated up enough to burn his hand. That's when
the cup of burning alcohol was thrown to the deck spashing himself and
the forward part of the cabin both of which started to burn. At that
point he dropped and rolled and I calmly put out the fire in the cabin.
It's quite possible I saved his boat and his life.
He thanked me by borrowing my hand held vacuum cleaner to clean up the
extinguisher powder, ruining it in the process.

Still looking for the perfect boat -
