Subject: TWL: Rudder toe-in settings for twin engine installation
From: Michael Slater (mike@XXX.XXX)

A couple of months back when investigating an on-going vibration on
Sally Lillian, I came across the issue of toe in setting for rudders. I
had a number of very helpful contributions on the subject from listees,
which has led to the probable identification of the lack of setup in
this area adding to some vibration issues on my drive train.
However the only advice for setup was a suck it and see type, disconnect
the rudder bar, run the vessel in a straight line holding her so by
engine power and clamp up. Whilst this may be the only option in the end
it does seem a bit "Harry Potter".
Of late I have seen much debate on the scientific pre-calculation of
displacement boat speed and hp requirement. And I wondered if any of the
obviously technical, well read, contributors had any reference to a
specific and scientific method of calculating toe in and setting it up?
All responses gratefully accepted.
