Can't say much about mast shadows since mine is very small and about 15 feet
aft of the radar along with some large Dorade ventilators. I notice some
degradation in radar performance directly aft, but my radar is mounted
rather low and is also shielded aft by my awning.
Pitching and rolling is not a problem for me, but my boat hardly pitches at
all since it's quite long and skinny and the CG is very low so it doesn't
roll enough to affect radar performance much especially when the weather is
such that radar is useful.
I mounted my radar with about 2 degrees of nose down attitude because I'm
interested in seeing stuff in front of me and close.
Remember that the higher you mount the radar the further it can "see", but
you will sacrifice some close in performance. Since my radar is a low power
unit, it is only 11 feet above the water and I can see stuff really close,
which is what I'm often interested in when I feel that need for radar.
