Gary

You make a very good point. The percentage run time of the compressor is
just as important as the 12 vdc amp draw when the compressor is running.

The literature on the 8.0 cu ft Tundra T-80 says it takes 4.5 amps at 12
vdc. It also says the power required is 28.0 watts "based on design
conditions of 90F ambient and 40F inside box temperature." Assuming 12.0
vdc (i.e. not 12.6), doesn't this imply that the compressor runs 52% of the
time?

Norcold's website doesn't give wattage numbers. I have a friend with a new
DE-461 who says the compressor cycle is supposed to be 50% but I don't know
where he got his info. The 6.3 cu ft Norcold is rated at 5.0 amps.

BTW, the FTC's Energy Guide numbers on conventional refrigerators are also
based on 90F ambient. During the measurement period, the door is never
opened and the ice maker, if there is one, is disabled. I'd bet that Tundra
is measuring watts without ever opening the door.
