Subject: TWL: Secondary anchor rode set up
>Also, be sure you have some chafe gear available. The rubber chafe
tubing sold for that purpose, split lengthwise, always works off my ropes
over time. I'm inclined to stick a rag between the rope and deck in a real
storm.
One of my favorite boats in our marina is a 1940s vintage troller, about
36' long. The owner, while apparenlty no longer fishing with it, keeps it
in immaculate condition. The boat's name is Donna. I noticed that he uses
two-foot long lengths of heavy, clear plastic tubing on his dock lines as
chafe protection. It's cheap, and it doesn't work itself off the line as
do the split rubber chafe guards mentioned above. I bought some of this
tubing at Home Depot, and it's held up great for the last three years on
our 5/8" dock lines, the mooring lines we use on the permanent mooring
buoys in marine parks, and the nylon snubber lines we use with our
all-chain anchor rode.
