I have the same kind of strainers on my Willard. Whenever the boat is hauled
and I spot a crustacean growing inside the strainer I check a length of
coathangrer wire with a bend in the end in my electric drill, run the wire
through one of the strainer holes, turn on the drill and disintegrate the
intruder's shell, then blow out the small pieces with an air hose. It takes
about 5 minutes per strainer. I havn't had to pull a strainer in years. The
technique works extremely well on barnacles and Zebra mussels. I don't know
about oysters though.
