Mike and all--
Our general perceptions of the Bill of Rights notwithstanding, there is a
long-established body of case law that gives law enforcement authorities very
wide latitude to conduct searches and seizures of vehicles (including boats)
at or near our nation's borders, with drastically-lower thresholds of the
"probable cause" necessary to justify a search. Add to this the political
atmosphere following 911 and the conservative predilections of the current
AG, and my best legal advice would be to not have anything on board that you
would not want found and held up to legal, if not public scrutiny.
Best to all--Michael Oritt
