Seems I heard somewhere that in normal use, one engine hour is the equivalent
of 30 miles of driving. It probably varies with how hard you push your boat
engine. In the former case, 1000 boat engine hours would be 30,000 miles of
dry driving. Exceptions abound in both directions. Bob Beebe's Passagemaker
had 25,000 hours on it in 1996, and was still running strong. That's the same
as 750,000 miles on the road, if the 30 mile figure holds up. On the other
hand, a lead-fisted skipper who runs his big engines almost flat out all the
time will probably not approach that figure.
