When I originally wired my boat (1979) and rewired it in 1986 I used two
30-amp 110 volt inlets, each to two 110 volt legs that I combined to make a
220 volt for the dryer portion of the washer/dryer circuit (the only 220 volt
appliance)--I did this because at that time it was still not uncommon to find
marinas that did NOT have 50 amp outlets I carried a 50 amp divider for the
two shore power cords--and by combining two 110's that were out of phase I
could still often make up 220 circuit to run the dryer. As part of
installing a Glendenning shore power cord reel, in 1999 I switched over to
one 50 amp power cord--I cannot think of the last time that I pulled into a
marina that did not have 50 amp boxes and I would recommend using one 220
inlet.
