Perhaps I misunderstand, but if you mean the meter is truly reading zero
when you say "none" then something is intermittent or disconnected in your
wiring. If the alternator is truly hard wired to your battery, it can't
read zero even if the alternator is screwed up -- you'd read the voltage of
the battery.

The bad news is that if the battery is disconnected from the alternator, it
may fry the alternator too. I'd start by closely scrutinizing the wiring.
