When it comes to indirect lighting, a variety of option is now available.
Where you have extensive sections of toe kick under counters and along built in cupboards or fixed couches, many builders now use rope light.
It is tough durable and will resist a certain amount of abuse like a toe hitting it.

The lighting only illuminates the floor,so you can see where you are going, it is totally glare free and most of the time is less power hungry than any other method.

One caution. Do not buy the cheap consumer type which is becoming popular at Walmart, Home depot etc. My experience is that they do not last as long as the
commercial sign quality rope lights sold by the sign shops.

When a bulb does blow you end up with a short dead section. 6" on a DC string and 18" on 120V AC strings. You can replace it but the effort is more than just
screwing in another bulb.

For additional lighting ideas visit a commercial supplier who provides lights for the advertising, and store display market.

America Lighting and Innovative Lghting both offer 12V white light LED lights that are perfect for steps, cupboards and closets, not to mention the chart table area etc.
Being extremely low draw they offer very long life, minimal power consumption where this is a concern and no heat to damage closet or cupboard content or pose a risk
of fire

The other day I saw the white led fitting on an elastic headband and advertised as a minimalist headlamp for hikers and cave climbers.

Cheers

Arild
