TWL: RE: Dingy & motor

Jim Alexander mentioned that his dinghy's bow rises alarmingly during
acceleration. I had the same issue on mine. I added a Doel-Fin (one of
those black plastic "whale tail" fins) on the cavitation plate of the motor
and the problem was solved. The ride is far smoother and drier, it rides
level, and I can get 4 people up on step where before it was a struggle to
get three. I have a 10' RIB with a Yamaha 15 4-stroke. The best $30 I ever
spent on a boating item, bar none.

Incidentally, my RIB has an aluminum hull rather than a FG. It only weighs
85 lbs, compared to the 150+ lbs of the FG models. The savings in weight
makes the step to a 4-stroke an easier decision. And I'm a RIB abuser. The
aluminum has a little paint missing where I've dragged it on rocky beaches,
a FG RIB would have been chewed to pieces with the same treatment.
