Dan,
    If you can swing the 26 inch prop with out cavitation, it probably is
better. It should cost little to find out what the pitch is next time the
boat is hauled. Does the boat reach Max RPM at WOT as rated? If it does
then the prop is OK, probably OK if a couple of hundred RPM shy--if you
don't run it near high end.

    The 24 x 16 is probably way to low a pitch--it is not degrees but
inches--the prop goes thru 16 inches of water (theoretically) in each
turn--the differenct between 16 and 20 is about 25%--it will not be
effecient--and not the thing to do!
