Greetings to all:

> My chosen solution was to install the galvanic isolators,

Are they mutually exclusive? I have been doing lots and lots of reading
on this, and the information here on the list has been extreamly
informative and very valuable.

Our boat is having her "new-owner" re-fit, and one of the things we are
doing is installing a bigger generator, one additional shore-power
connection, and two isolation transformers.

In reviewing the literature with regards to isolation transformers, and
the shore-power connection, the question of what to do with the
shore-power "safety ground" (green) came up. What I intend to do is the
following:

.
. Galvanic Isolator
.
. |------>|----->|-------|
. -----| |-----
. From |-------|<-----|<------| To Main Engine
. Shore Neg Terminal
. Safety
. Green (Earth)
.
. Isolation Transformer
.
. black (hot) black (hot)
. ----------------)|(-----------------
. )|(
. From Shore AC )|( To Boat's
. )|( Breaker panel
. )|( via switch
. ----------------)|(------------------
. white (neutral) white (neutral)
.

Questions:

1) Since we will end up with 2 shore-power connections (30 amps each),
the above setup needs to be applied to each connector right? In other
words 2 transformers and 2 isolators. We are adding the additional
connection because of the added AC requirements of the new Air
Conditioners and this new connection will service only the aircons.

2) Is the above concept correct? Does it meet specs? Are there any
potential difficulties using both devices??? Is this overkill??

3) Is it permissable to construct a "Y" cable in order to attach each
of the seperate shore power connectors to a single dock-side recepticle?
I would want to have adapters to facilitate connections to a 30 or to a
50 amp shore connection, when 2 dock-side recepticles are not available.

Our generator setup is a bit un-conventional, in that it is an external
generator coupled to an existing perkins 4-107 "Aux" engine. This engine
is also coupled to the transmission via a seperate power coupling, so it
serves as the main "gen-set" as well as the "get-home".

The new Northernlight generator will have 2 outputs (actually 220volts
with a center tap). One output will feed the new Air onditioner
breakers, and the other output will feed the existing AC panel/breakers
via appropriate transfer switches.

We will be doing LOTS of cruising around, and therefor the condition and
availability of shore power is a complete unknown. We will also be
living aboard 24/7/365, so the electrical systems will be in constant
use.

All comments and suggestions are very welcome...

Regards
Bob
