Subject: TWL: TWL overzinc'd ?

How can one tell if those "white crystals" are a result of overzincing or
just salt crystal deposits, on a wood boat? Seawater intrusion will leave
telltale salt deposits upon drying,and over a period of time can get quite
noticeable. I've toyed with the idea of "tasting" the crystals to identify
but am not sure what to expect.
