The question has been asked about the toxicity of Biobar. This is basically
a formulation of boric acid which is soluable in the water/patroleum
interphase where the bacteria and algae grow in fuel tanks. EPA lists this
as a class III or IV human health risk (low)--however it is a high risk for
eye irritation, so protective eyeware should be utalized. The
concentration that should result in fuel is 270 PPM. The amounts handled by
recreationa boaters, even though not in a closed system, with reasonalbe
precautions should not cause harm. Reasonable precautions include not
getting significant amounts on the skin, inhaling high concerntrations of
the fumes in a closed space and using eye protection.

The EPA Web site is:

Although the U S Navy and Coast Guard do not routinely suggest the
utalization of algicides, Biobor is the only one approved for such use if
deemed necessary. Of note is that almost all of the airplane manufactuers
approve Biobor for use in their tanks and jet engines.
