Joe,

Fortunately I ALWAYS cruise with my wife and she has learnt enough to "get
by". I get your point though, but all you read is government health warnings
on all boating electronics and I decided to implement aircraft standards of
redundancy to be safe. But really all the boxes work the same so once you've
learnt one you have them all. So that just leaves the switching, two of
them, and labelled with the appropriate unit. And the point is if you feel
confident in your electronic navigation you have moooooore time to look on
the water! Indeed for example we have our Radar on every cruise, my wife has
learnt to understand targets and Marpa, and the fog no longer phases her. So
I just immerse her in the systems whilst things are easy, to build
confidence. Even though, I still am a bit rusty at the season start!!
