Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the proper oil for
old Perkins engines. One person also recommended that I talk to Perkins
directly to ask the question. Actually, I already had. I called a couple
of their local service operations and got three different answers -- 30
weight, 40 weight and 15W40 which didn't narrow the possibilities much.
The nearly unanimous feedback that I got from the list was that most people
are using 15W40 (except for Detroit owners) and that the type of oil used
didn't really much matter as long as it was a good quality major brand that
is changed frequently enough.
