White Papers...such a great idea it deserves an "I'll second that". This
list does some serious problem solving for which there may be no better
source. But... I've spent some serious time (easily several hundred hours)
learning the basics and researching the many varied aspects of boat
ownership and purchasing. My over 300 boating bookmarks show that one must
look high and low for information.(Got the bug bad I suppose :) ). I figure
on many hundred hours more before I'll be comfortable signing on the dotted
line for "The Boat". While I don't like to be spoon fed info anymore than
the next guy and I feel there is no substitute for doing ones own research,
a series of white papers (in one spot) would certainly have helped. There
are some out there, David Pascoe (http://www.yachtsurvey.com) comes to mind,
Red Beards Articles (http://www.redbeardyachtsystems.com/articles.htm )and
some of those West Marine Advisor articles too
(http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/commerce/command/ExecMacro/west_advisor.d2
w/advisors ) but to paraphrase Jeff "One stop shopping for the basics" would
be so nice. I believe Garrett kinda started something similar a while ago
with his "Firsts series" here at TWL. I for one thought those were great. It
brings to mind the "Ask the expert" thread we had a month or so ago too.
This list has the expertise to do it too. Now I'm not one of the experts but
any way I could help in this noble effort is hereby offered...What do ya say
listees? Georgs?
