"What do I need to think about when buying my first trawler?" is an
interesting question because of its scope - the proper answer encompases the
sum total of all the knowledge possessed by everyone on this list (at the
very least it would include all the information in all the strings in the
archives), and documenting the answer would make for a very large book.

But it caught my interest because of the way that documenting the answer
could add value to the cruising community. What if we tried to distill and
summarize some of the topics in the archives, and presented them as white
papers on Trawler World?

I know this is nuts because if we tried to collaborate on summarizing a
topic, we'd probably end up trying to kill one another... Trawler Fest
would become a slug fest... Maybe we'd end up with a majority and minority
opinion, like the Supreme Court. Or in our case, 17 majority opinions and
112 minority opinions.

But still, wouldn't it be a great resource to go to Trawler World and read a
white paper on fuel/water/black water tank material & construction? Or
Cetol application, or Binoculars, or diesel polishing systems, or whatever?
All of these topics are contained in different books, but they're not all
located in one place. And no book has the benefit of real-time information
from such a wide range of contributors.

The information is already there, it just needs to be collated, documented
and presented. I can't volunteer myself for a while because I
(unfortunately) still have a job, but is there any chance that some of our
retired members would be interested in collaborating on such a project?

The only downside to all this, other than the mayhem involved in coming to
agreement on the white papers, is that Trawler World would end up with so
much content that George would start charging us a subscription fee. He'd
then get rich, buy his own Nordhaven 42, and sail off into the sunset.
