TWL: Where do we start?

Subject: TWL: Where do we start?

My wife and I are in our "early fifties." We own and operate a Motel &
Cottage Operation on Ocracoke Island on North Carolina's Outer Banks. My
goal, and hopefully my wife's with your help is to start extended Trawler
Type Cruising say in 2 years. This hopefully will be from December until
March (3 to 4 months a year). My thoughts are initially to spend the winter
months in the Abacos. We both love it
there.

Now, where should we start? I do have my 6 Pack License and have extensive
experience with small boats ( say 16' to 20'). Wife has little or no
experience. Need your suggestion as to a 2 Year Plan with the
result being us "powering off to the Abacos" in 12/2003 in our own Trawler.

Our son (age 27) will assume an increasingly more responsible role in our
business thus allowing us to have our winters completely off. We are now
closed from 1/2 until 3/15, so over the next 2 years we do have some
flexibility.

We currently own the following boats:
1972 Stamus 20' Cutty with a 200HP Outboard
1995 Flat Bottom Skiff with a 88 HP Outboard
Both are kept in the water for most of the year.

Your thoughts on:
Familiarization with Trawlers (say Melboure Trawler Fest)
Trawler Purchase by 12/03 (one that would be comfortable to live own for
say up to 4 months each year and could tow 20' skiff and outboard). Price
is of concern so I need guidance as to getting the "best bang for the
buck", new or used.

Thanking You In Advance.
