TWL: Boojum in Seattle

Hi gang,

Boojum was safely unloaded and lifted to the water at United Motor
Freight this afternoon. Everything was running well, and we motored
over to Bell Harbor Marina (in downtown Seattle) for the night.

The only problem in shipping was that someone appears to have gotten
inside the boat and "lifted" a toolkit and a pair of West Marine
binoculars. No major stuff missing as far as we can tell, but the
big port hole above the galley was left open...Only fresh (rain)
water on the counter, so this may have happened fairly recently, I
don't really know. Unless we have overlooked something, the loss is
small (well under the shipping insurance deductible.)

We are VERY glad to have Boojum home!

Cheers,

Charles

ps -- the jury is still out on how US Customs will classify Boojum.
Apparently, if classed as a TUG, it can be imported duty free. If
classed as a YACHT, there will be a 1.5% duty (still very reasonable
compared to 12.5% GST in NZ.) We are making the argument that
although it has a yacht interior, the heavy bow fender, heavy duty
towing and securing bits, CP prop, and other features qualify it as a
TUG, but the final determination will be made by a Customs Officer.
