Subject: TWL: RE: anchor dragging and alarm settings

Dan,
Absolutely! We always set the shallow water alarm and the GPS "anchor
watch" alarm. In a secluded spot (no other boats) sometimes also set
the radar to ping if anything comes closer than our comfort zone
permits, usually a half mile.

My fish finder has a depth setting alarm I set once
while anchored. It would make a noise if the bottom
came up past a certain depth. I also read in my GPS
manual some kind of range field you can set to see if
your anchor drags. Does anyone use these techniques to
see if they are dragging? Can this be counted on
reliably?
