I don't have the book in front of me, but I do know that Nigel Calder
recommends that teflon impregnated stuffing NOT be used because of the
potential for galvanic reaction! In his book, he's discussing shaft
stuffing boxes. Whether that applies to rudder shafts or not I wouldn't
know. Had the same advice from the boat yard that does my maintenance
work (that which I don't do myself).
