Another possible problem with this stuff is, If the you tighten the nut
too much the packing gets too hot and the teflon melts and flows causing a
leak, causing you to tighten more, causing it to leak more, causing you to
tighten the nut ... OH you get the idea. I heard the trick is to tighten
just to the point that it stops leaking, run for a time and tighten again
it.
I used the "GorTex" stuff this last time and I'm happy with it. 30 Hrs on
them and no dripping at all (no retightening). I think the key to this job
is getting the shaft clean/smooth, I used 2000 paper on them and a little
of that green/blue greese (for stuffing boxes) they sell at WM... jd
