Subject: Re: TWL: Deck Covering

Hi Len
I must have inspected a couple of hundred boats during my long search to
purchase. One of the consistent failures I noticed was hairline cracking
in fibreglass decks. There is never/never enough support under the
'glass to prevent it from flexing, and even just a little will cause
those cracks to form over time.
I must be the only one on TWL who likes teak decking, but I find the
unfinished teak on my aft deck comfortable and secure of footing, and a
lot easier to keep clean than my diamond non-skid 'glass decks. In any
case, were it me, I would avoid 'glass/gelcoat, and either glue - rather
than screw - new teak, or opt for one of the other coverings that TWL
members have found satisfactory.
Cheers, Garrett
