Jim,
If your Jabsco electric head is like mine, the intake pump uses a rubber
impeller to pump seawater thru a hose to the top of the bowl. The
evacuator/macerator pump is a simple cast bronze centrifugal pump on the same
shaft that is almost fail free. The impeller pump will refuse to suck up
water if there is a leak in the cover gasket. Check this first. The reduced
output you noticed before the rebuild may have been due to a partial blockage
in either the intake line (barnacles, seaweed, etc.) or a blockage in the
line to the top of the bowl (impeller shreds, seaweed, etc.). If the gasket
is OK and the intake line is clear, see if water spurts out of the pump
delivery port when you remove the hose to the bowl. If water comes out, the
blockage is in the hose. If not, the problem is the pump. By the way, are you
sure that you have the right impeller in the rebuild kit? Is it properly
keyed to the motor shaft? Is the pump housing cracked?
Have you considered using an old oaken bucket?
