There are two ways out of your problem:
1. Chuck the PC (or sell it to the highest bidder) and get a Mac laptop.
MaxSea runs just fine on the Mac. The new iMac laptops are not only beautiful
but they run 5 hours on a battery charge and look great in a marine
environment. The price is right too.
2. If you keep the PC, use the oldest, simplist operating system MaxSea will
run on. Partition your hard drive and keep only the OS and nav. program on
that partition. No games, no other software. It's the bells and whistles of
the OS that cause most crashes. An alternative is to get a used, older model
laptop and dedicate it to navigation. Many good ones are available for the
price of a case of Fosters.
I use PCs at work and Macs at home and on my boat. The Macs are more stable
and far more reliable. They are also much more resistant to current viruses.
