TWL: Deck Covering

To All

We are looking for advice and information on what to cover our fiberglass
deck with. We have taken off the teak on our aft deck which is
approximately 15 wide x 12 long.

Fortunately the fiberglass and core are in good shape. All screw holes have
been filled and we are in the process of taking out a hatch and faring the
shear roughly a 1/16th of an inch. This we plan to do by beefing up the
fiberglass stringers below running athwart ships.

Both Marine Deck 2000 and Tread master deck coverings have been considered.
A local Florida professional has adamantly advised against Marine Deck 2000.
He has used it on major installations with poor results, the edges will not
stay down. The factory has worked with him but the results were
unsatisfactory.

A poll of this bulletin board 18 months ago resolved consideration of Tread
master. Several members had problems of adhesion and cleaning. Because we
do not want to go back to teak we only know of textured gel coat. All
advice and information on alternative choices of deck covering will be
sincerely appreciated.

Kindest Regards,

Len Brunotte
