Steve,
That is exacly why the green safety ground wire is required on all 110 VAC
circuits, and why two prong outlets are not acceptable. If there is a short
to the frame of the winch, the current goes to ground via the green wire and
trips the curcuit breaker. That is also why you want to make sure the green
wire makes it from the dock to the boat (with or without a galvanic isolator
in the circuit) when shore power is hooked up. Those who try to "solve"
their corrosion problems by cutting the green wire are just setting
themselves up for a far bigger safety problem.
