There is such a certification process, but is not applied to smaller
vessels..
ABS - American Bureau of Ships is sometimes used by megayacht owners.
From what I have heard this is a certification process imposed by the
insurance companies, seldom asked for by owners.
However, it is more common for a custom boat to be inspected by a
surveyor on a regular basis to ensure the boat conforms to the purchasae
specifications. Like ABYC this is a voluntary practice.
