A question was asked in an earlier post about a source of information
for place names and map coordinates. The Canadian Government provides
such info for Canadian locations at
http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/english/query.html. The data base seems
comprehensive and includes current, official, and historical names of
communities, geographical and undersea sites.
