There must be differences in the specs over the years. I have Hynautic
steering in my 1988 34 Marine Trader, and that pressure sounded way high to
me. I double checked my Hynautic manual to verify. It recommends 35 - 45 psi
for initial fill and purging and an operating pressure of 20 - 30 psi.
Perhaps running too high a pressure in an older (newer?) system designed
for less could be causing the pressure drop. I think it would be worth
giving Hynautic a call to verify the specs for that particular system.
FWIW I have been running my system at 25 psi for the last 10 years. I
check the pressure routinely, but other than having a failure at a hydraulic
line connection, I usually drop only about 5 psi over a full year.
