Ron,
I have block heaters on my Detroit 6-71Ns. I had them wired into the AC
system and they are controlled by thermstats in the water jackets. I had a
small control box installed in the engine room with switches to disable the
system on either/both engine, as well as indicator lights to let me know
when they are on. The previous owner had an extension cord running from
shore power that powered them, but I wasn't crazy about that so I had these
modifications made. Works well.
