Hi Rich,

I use a square tupperware container.

I can just stick one corner under the drain after I take the plug out. Don't
take the top plug out until you are ready for it to drain.

I never take out the level plug on the side. I fill the pump with 1/2 quart
of oil. Long ago I measured how much it took to fill it to the correct level.
