Subject: TWL: Japanese Trawler story--things that go bump

I am sure that the story I posted is is hoax, as pointed out in the web cited
by Jim and Robert. However I have several experiences are not as dramatic as
this posting.
In the 1950's I was sailing with on my fathers sailboat at least 10 miles
from land. There were no navy ships in sight. The notice to mariners had
not posted any restrictions. A shot went through the mainsail and landed in
the water about 100 yards away. There was no VHF radio in those days and we
did not have an AM Radio for communication with the Coast Guard or Navy.
Phone calls after the incident brought denial from the Navy and the Army at
Fort McAurther in San Pedro that these services could have fired a shot which
landed in that area.
In the 1960's a submarine, which did not appear to be United States surfaced
about 100 feet from me on the S. Calif Coast--it immediately submerged. A
VHF call to the Navy brought several ships from Long Beach CA to the area.
In approx 1994 a Chillean Sub, with a U S "advisor" surfaced off the S. Coast
of Vancouver Island under a sailboat. The boat was sunk, the owner was taken
aboard the sub and detained for about six hours.
Any other stories of "unusual" things comming out of the deep or from the sky?
