A burgee is "a swallow-tailed pennant used by ships for signals and
house flags, or a triangular identifying flag of a yacht club flown by
boats or members". The US Navy flies "a burgee to denote an officer
below flag rank commanding a division of warships or a major subdivision
of an aircraft wing". (Webster's Third New International Dictionary.)
The Power Squadron pennant is a burgee, for example.
Now, who knows the correct protocol for actually flying one? We put ours
on a low flag-staff at the bow, but I'm not sure this is proper
practice.
BTW, I believe a TWL burgee is available for purchase about once every
six months or so. Depends, I think, on whether Georgs has found a new
volunteer to handle the ordering and distribution.
Cheers, Garrett
