The last boat I restored was a 35' Chris Craft Roamer with a steel hull. I
had the same thought about how great it would look and I painted the
topsides and the front and side decks Midnight Blue, a Petit color, with
white stripes and band. It was as beautiful as I could have imagined.
What I didn't consider was that all of the previous coats of paint including
primers etc. had been white. Any scratches, expansion cracks and
imperfections stood out like a sore thumb. I decided to repaint the boat
white over the blue..........now I had the reverse situation.
I eventually sold the boat as a white boat after touching up many blue
spots.
Painting the decks dark was a big mistake....you could fry eggs and feet on
them.
