I haven't been out personally yet, but I hear that the USCG is escorting
the cruise ships and liquid cargo carriers in the Houston Ship Channel.
They don't seem to be strictly enforcing the 500 yard exclusion zone,
but they are there and heavily armed on decks. I hope nobody is stupid
enough to test their resolve... those idiots who like to cut in front of
the cruise ships on bowriders are likely to have a nasty day if they try
that with the CG on station. All of us are giving them as wide a berth
as possible! I would CERTAINLY not go into any of these areas without a
good radio on Ch. 16.
