'Lo All,
During a recent presentation to a boating group I belong to, a transoceanic
sailboat racer and Physician's Assistant reported that he had tried every
seasickness remedy known to man when attempting to qualify for a race.
Nothing worked. Not being prone to, being able to cope with, or finding a
remedy for seasickness was a prerequisite to join the team. Finally, he tried
a prescription drug for nausea, called phenegren. Phenegren has a side effect
that it can cause drowsiness. He experimented with it and found that if he
broke the tablet into quarters, one quarter would keep him from getting
nauseous, and he did not get seasick. Also, at that dosage, he did not get
sleepy from it.
He made the team and sailed in the race.
This, as all prescription drugs, must be used only under a doctor's
care/advice.
Since phenegren had never been mentioned as a possible last-ditch remedy to
seasickness, I thought this may be of value.
