TWL: More electrical questions

I guess the one thing I have noticed to be the "norm" on many trawlers is
the installation of regular 120V household type refrigerator freezers. This
may be fine at the dock plugged into shore power, but how do you keep the
thing working when away from the dock?

All of the boats do have gensets, but you can't run one all the time, at
least not in my way of thinking. I have read and been advised by several
about having a good inverter. So, I am now convinced that an inverter is
not a "nice to have" item but a real absolute necessity. Correct?

Jim
